Nonprofits love to talk about protecting kids. Fewer want to talk about what happens when they fail to do it.
Abusers look for openings. Systems are full of them. Sometimes it’s not a broken policy — it’s a missing one. Or a promise that was quietly dropped when leadership changed. Or a nonprofit that “can’t find the documentation.”
It’s not the people with power who pay the price when those holes stay open.
It’s the families.
If you’re part of a mission-driven organization that works with kids — maybe ask yourself what happens five, ten, twenty years after the press release, or rather, when they completely bury it and act like it didn’t happen. “Defenders of Potential”
Buckle UP.
